London Life and Times
6 December 2016
We have had a very interesting time looking at the the history of London and our surrounding area. The children have learnt so much and have been very engaged.
We had a walk to Kenwood House and looked at all the paintings as well as learnt about the history of the house. Including learning about William Murray – 1st Earl Mansfield and his niece Dido Elizabeth Belle. We also studied some of the fabulous paintings including Rembrandt, Turner, Gainsborough and Vermeer.
We studied the local history of East Finchley and visited the Phoenix Cinema, the tube station and looked at local landmarks. We discussed the growth of East Finchley prior to and following the expansion of the London Underground.
We also visited the Museum of London to get a feel for the various times of London’s history such as Roman, Medieval, the Fire and Plague, Tudors and Victorians. The children have learnt so much.
